We recently asked for some military families to reach out to us and share their family pictures and tell us their favorite things to do in Maryland. Here are a few of the entires we got along with our cover winners, the Johnsons. They are repping the Coast Guard in Maryland and the cover was shot at North Beach by Dunks Photos.
The Alexander Family

The Alexanders are a local military family stationed in Pax, an hour or so from Annapolis. They were stationed in San Diego before Maryland. That’s where their family started. They’ve been in Maryland for almost 3 years and in the military for 15 years. It took some time to acclimate to having all four seasons again but they love hiking with their kids and their active 2 year old lab.
The Lupher Family

The Luphers were stationed in Annapolis this year. Derrick serves in the Navy. Some of their favorite spots in the area include Quiet Waters and Downs Park. These outings not only provide a great time for the kids but also allow their beloved doggos to get their zoomies out! As avid readers, the local libraries have become their go-to spots at every duty station, and the ones here in Annapolis have truly impressed them.
Another favorite spot to visit is the Chesapeake Children’s Museum. It has activities catering to every age group and has become one of their favorite spots to spend quality family time.
The Sullivan Family

The Sullivan family is stationed in Annapolis. After graduating from the USNA and now 14 years of marriage, they found themselves back where it all started. Their family has expanded to include four incredible children, each born on a different continent. The adventures of military life have taken them to eight different locations, spanning Europe, Japan, and both coasts of the United States.
The Hughes Family

The Hughes family is stationed at Patuxent River Naval Base in California, MD. This was their first duty station in 2002 as just husband and wife. Now it will be their last duty station as a family of 4 when Dad retires in 2025 having served for 24 years. They enjoy attending local events in their small community (pumpkin patches, fairs, and local restaurants), and they love going to the Naval Academy and Ravens games. They especially love heading to the DC area to try new restaurants.
The Johnson Family

The Johnson family is stationed with the U.S. Coast Guard in Huntingtown, MD. Moving around has brought challenges but built resilience. They love exploring new things including shark teeth at Calvert Cliffs or Flag Ponds. They are currently on a mission to fill their National Parks Passport so they travel around frequently. They also really enjoy the Navy Rec Center and Calvert Marine Museum.
