Making the Kids Table Cool Again

I don’t recall a Thanksgiving dinner that I didn’t sit at the kids table until after I got married at 26 years old.

Every turkey day I remember my Aunt Jackie having activities for us to do. From art projects to games, she made sure we were entertained. A lot has changed over the years, including kids bringing their cellphones to family functions and not interacting much with relatives.

Nothing is a bigger bummer than sitting at a table with people you see once or twice a year and everyone is more into their phone than the food and company surrounding them. So, this year, tell everyone to leave their phones at the door and engage them with these family fun ideas.

Make Thanksgiving Graffiti

Grab a roll of craft paper from the store and lay it down as the tablecloth. Write messages like, “I am thankful for . . .“ and have them fill in the blank. Leave out some markers or crayons so the kids can write, draw, or play games on the table. Watch everyone’s imagination unfold.

Get Cookie Crazy

I don’t know many kids who don’t love cookies, no matter what their age. Set up a DIY cookie bar and have them decorate their own desserts to eat and share!

Follow this simple guide to give the kids table a yummy project to do.

Craft Up Some Fun

There is no shortage of cute and fun Thanksgiving theme craft ideas out there. Memories of tracing hands for turkey feathers come to mind. However corny these crafts seem, they can make for lots of laughs and creativity. Grab some supplies and let the kiddos make their own gobblers.

Make a Mocktail

Come up with a fun signature drink for the family that everyone can enjoy. Then spread some love and toast to the family being together. Go around the tables and have everyone toast to what they are thankful for this year.
