Kids at Jefferson PAtterson Park, MarylandThursdays are great days to head to Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum because the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory (MAC Lab), located on site, is open for free tours at 11am and 1pm, no reservation necessary.

Meet with the archaeologists and see over 8 million artifacts, some as old as 10,000 years, and learn how they are preserved.

Jefferson Patterson is located in Calvert County along the Patuxent River, on 560 acres and miles of scenic hiking trails (trail maps available online and at the visitor center). The visitor center, with interactive exhibits that explain the history of the area, is worth stopping by. There is a short informative film, permanent and temporary exhibits, and a Discovery Room for kids.

In the Discovery Room children can dress up in colonial attire, play with old-fashioned toys and try to identify artifacts like an archaeologist would.  Check out the website for even more information and a calendar full of events and activities throughout the summer!
