The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is extending hours and offering a shuttle this summer so there’s no excuse not to visit.
The zoo is extending evening hours every Thursday in July and August. Beginning July 5, the zoo will be open until 7 p.m. on Thursdays for “After Hours with the Animals,” with 50 percent off admission after 4 p.m.
Guests can tour the zoo after work or come later in the day and take advantage of the cooler summer evenings. Bring the whole family, or make it a date night. Concessions will also stay open, but guests are always welcome to bring a picnic.
“Last year we tested the waters with extended hours in August, and it was such a success that we decided to expand it to both July and August this year,” stated Don Hutchinson, president/CEO of The Maryland Zoo. “By staying open a little later, folks can grab the kids after work to visit as the sun goes down and see how active the animals are in the evening.”
A Safari Express shuttle will also be available to transport visitors from Baltimore’s Inner Harbor to the zoo this summer thanks to Veolia Transportation. Beginning on Saturday, July 7 and continuing each Saturday through Aug. 25, zoo visitors can ride this free shuttle from the Baltimore Visitor Center to the zoo and back. Visitors can even buy tickets to the zoo at the Baltimore Visitor Center before they go.
Shuttle times are as follows:
Baltimore Visitor Center to zoo
9:30, 10, 10:30, and 11 a.m., noon, 1, and 2 p.m.
Zoo to Baltimore Visitor Center
11:30 a.m., and 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30, and 4:30 p.m.
