Spend the day at the B&O Railroad Museum and both you and the kids will have a blast.
The B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore holds the oldest and most comprehensive American Railroad collection in the world, and the museum has plenty for both adults and kids to enjoy including train rides.
Parents and older kids will appreciate the museum’s many exhibits and video presentations, and younger kids can take part in some of the many kids’ activities the museum offers. Kids can meet Choo Choo Blue, a young train who is just learning the ropes, or play in the Kids Zone, which has story times, activity sheets, and interactive educational programs.
They can also take a kiddie train ride through the fictional town of Choo Choo Blueville, which displays 12 miniature buildings and running water. Tickets to ride the train are $2 per ticket or $5 for unlimited rides for one day for ages 2-12, in addition to the price of admission. Other fun rides are the B&O Train Carousel and the Happy Train. Each ride costs $2 per ride or $5 for unlimited rides for the day.
The whole family can ride the Mile One Express — a 20 minute round trip ride along the first commercial mile of railroad track laid in America. Train rides are Wednesday to Friday at 11:30 a.m., Saturday at 11 a.m., 1 and 2:30 p.m. and Sunday at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for children with admission to the museum. Or take a train ride to Mount Clare Museum House for an extra fee.
Ages 2-5 can come to the Toddler Time event, held the third Wednesday of each month through October. Children can listen to a classic railroad story, create a craft, and take a kiddie train ride.
