MD Summer Fun Day #86: Outdoor Theater

Shakespeare at Reynolds TavernDo drama, comedy and dress-ups fill your summer household? Do you have a budding thespian on your hands? Expose your child to local outdoor theater options.

Tuesday summer evenings come alive as Annapolis Shakespeare Company turns Reynolds Tavern Courtyard into a stage with Moliere’s Imaginary Invalid adapted by Timothy Mooney.

It is the story of Argan, who believes he is sick or at least hopes he is. In his quest to be cared for, he tries to marry off his daughter to a dimly witted doctor. The maid and brother come to the rescue in this comedy full of errors and colorful characters.

Other outdoor theater options include Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre and their current performance of Monty Python’s Spamalot. This slap stick comedy tells the story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Roundtable. This performance includes everything from showgirls to killer rabbits to flatulent Frenchmen. Shows run Thursdays through Sundays.

And for kids who really want to get in on acting, auditions at the Children’s Theatre of Annapolis for their production of The Canterville Ghost are on August 23 and 24. Click at the link for more information about The Children’s Theatre of Annapolis.
