Learn how you can protect your family from the escalating heroin problem in Anne Arundel County at a “Not My Child” community conversation Nov. 7 at Arundel High School in Gambrills.
With opioid and heroin abuse on the rise in Anne Arundel County, County Executive Steven Schuh feels that it is extremely important to educate as many families as possible to the signs and results of drug abuse, according to a press release from the county executive’s Office of Constituent Services.
The presentation will provide the facts regarding gateway drugs, the abuse of prescription drugs and how an addiction escalates to heroin use. Heroin does not discriminate, according to the press release. Drugs are in all communities and all families have the potential to be caught up in the web of addiction. Parents should get the facts, know the triggers and learn who to call for help.
The community conversation will begin with a short video introducing county residents who have been impacted by substance abuse. A panel discussion will follow with questions being taken from the audience. The panel will include a parent of a child in recovery, a prevention specialist from Anne Arundel County Medical Center, an environmental health educator from Anne Arundel County Health Department, a representative from the county police department and others.
