Melvin Stern, a primary care pediatrician in Highland, Md., has been recognized as Pediatrician of the Year by the Maryland Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
The American Academy of Pediatrics, a national organization with 1,800 members in Maryland, recognizes a pediatrician “whose career has exemplified the ideals of pediatrics in service, advocacy and contribution to organized pediatrics in Maryland.”
Dr. Stern has been a primary care pediatrician in Highland for more than three decades. This has afforded him the pleasure of seeing multiple generations of children grow and themselves become doctors, lawyers, dentists, teachers, and more. His work in child and family advocacy has resulted in changes in the length of time mothers and newborns can stay in the hospital as well as the kind of well care they can obtain. Additionally, Dr. Stern’s teaching pediatrics in a community setting has permitted young pediatricians (and pre-pediatricians) to become excited about serving the community in this manner.
