Age Appropriate for: 15+. The film is rooted in tragedy, so the cancer plots, with chemotherapy and depression, may be weightier for younger teens. But while the film’s sense of humor, cursing, drug use and suggested sexual situations are mature, mature teens should be able to handle it.
You don’t want to laugh at a movie about cancer, but oh, how you will at ‘50/50.’ Somewhat based on the life of screenwriter Will Reiser, the film is a funny, poignant triumph.

It would probably be safe to guess that no other movie about cancer has been funny. And yet we have “50/50,” something of a tragic comedy, that’s funnier than most things so far this year and more saddening, too.
