Kernel Rating (out of 5):
MPAA Rating: PG-13 Length: 113 minutes
Age Appropriate for: 15+. It’s mainly sexy stuff, like sexually charged dancing, an implied sex scene, some kissing and lewd talk. Otherwise there’s cursing, drug use and drinking, and some violence, like relationship abuse and a car crash.
Did ‘Footloose’ really need to be remade? Doubtful. But the 2011 version ups the dancing ante and keeps the right plot elements in place for a silly, enjoyable twist on Kevin Bacon’s original dance, dance revolution.
I will say this now: Kevin Bacon dancing his rage out in an abandoned barn is the best part of the original “Footloose,” released in 1984 as one of that decade’s choreography-centered teen flicks. Don’t argue with that; you’ll just be wrong.
