Length: 137 minutes         MPAA Rating: R

Age Appropriate for: 16+. Cursing and sexual content, including the suggestion of an illicit homosexual relationship and the audio recording of a graphic heterosexual encounter.

Let’s give Leonardo DiCaprio an Oscar already, shall we? Somehow he makes the grumbly, cantankerous J. Edgar Hoover a wonderfully tortured character we can’t help but sympathize with.

By Roxana Hadadi

J. Edgar Hoover wasn’t really the greatest guy. He sparred with presidents, had it out for Martin Luther King Jr. and had his own unwavering desire for power. But in Clint Eastwood’s and Leonardo DiCaprio’s hands, Hoover is thoroughly sympathetic, tragic even — and “J. Edgar” works because of it.
