My happy place — FranklyStein

Weekapaug pondYou know that spot that you are supposed to envision when you are in labor? That spot that calms you down just by thinking about it? This is that spot for me.

It’s the view from my parents’ summer home in Rhode Island. When I’m looking out at this view, my blood pressure immediately drops. I feel a deep sense of well-being despite what might be going on around me.

We spent part of spring break in Rhode Island this week, and I spent as much time as I could looking at this view. Even though I’m on my way home today, I’m in a good place because I’ve had my dose of this. It might also be, however, that I spent six full days just hanging out with with my husband and kids. We had six days with no sports, no social life and few distractions.

We spent the time walking on the beach, playing games, working on the house and eating meals together. It was a nice relief from our hectic life. It may have been the last spring break we will all have together since my oldest is going to college next year.

But even if we don’t make it here for Easter next year, I can always shut my eyes and think of this view. And all will be right in the world.
