The new superintendent of Anne Arundel County Public Schools will be announced at a Board of Education meeting May 7 at 10 a.m.
The meeting will be held in the Board Room at the Parham Building, located at 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis. The appointment, which will be contingent on the finalization of a contract between the candidate and the board, will nearly bring to a close a nine-month process to find a successor to Interim Superintendent of Schools Mamie J. Perkins. Mrs. Perkins, whose 11-month contract expires on June 30, chose not to seek the position on a permanent basis.
By state law, the board must appoint a candidate to a four-year term, which would begin on July 1. In March, the Board announced the following three finalists for the position:
- Dr. George Arlotto, Chief of Staff and former Associate Superintendent for School Performance, Anne Arundel County Public Schools
- Francisco Durán, Superintendent, Trenton (N.J.) Public Schools
- Dr. Maureen McMahon, Assistant Superintendent for Advanced Studies and Programs, Anne Arundel County Public Schools
A complete revised agenda for the meeting and more information on agenda items is posted on the AACPS website, in the Board Docs section under the Board of Education tab.
