Nominations are now being accepted for the 2020 Teacher of the Year for Anne Arundel County Public Schools and the county’s Independent Schools.
From those first days of preschool until your child walks across the stage graduating from high school, your child will have many teachers. Teaching is a selfless profession, where any given day the job varies from educator to mentor, first aid provider to counselor. Your child will have some good teachers, some wonderful, but there are always certain teachers who stand out and make an indelible impression. If your child has such a teacher, Anne Arundel County Public Schools wants to know. You are encouraged to nominate teachers who go above and beyond for the 2020 AACPS Teacher of the year award.
Nominees and winners will be recognized at the 34th annual Excellence in Education awards, hosted by the 21st Century Education Foundation & Anne Arundel County Public Schools, on April 16, 2020. Teresa Beilstein, a third-grade teacher at South Shore Elementary, was named the 2019 AACPS Teacher of the Year at last year’s event and is now a finalist for the Maryland State Teacher of the Year. AACPS has had finalists for the state honor in each of the last five years.
Do you know an outstanding teacher who should be recognized? Colleagues, parents, or other community members who would like to nominate an educator are encouraged to contact their school’s principal to begin the nomination process. Teachers must receive a nomination from their principal to be considered for the award. Nomination forms are available at aacps.org/toy and must be submitted by 3 p.m. on October 23, 2019.
