A North County High School freshman has developed a new method for detecting pancreatic cancer and won the grand prize at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) in Pittsburgh.
Jack Andraka , 15, created a dip-stick sensor that tests blood or urine in a manner that has already been shown to be 90-percent accurate in identifying pancreatic cancer – the deadliest form of cancer. The sensor he created is 28 times faster, 28 times less expensive, and over 100 times more sensitive than current tests on the market.
