What it offers: Paved biking/walking paths, hiking trails through the woods, a playground, nature center and Old Maryland Farm, where you can hear the turkeys gobble, gobble, gobble in anticipation of a handful of corn.
What it costs: free except for the Festival of Lights
Upcoming special events: Winter Festival of Lights

Drive through the park viewing spectacular twinkling lighted displays. Bring a canned good with you for a donation to the local food bank as well as $5/car. For information, call 301-699-2456. For an old-time take on the fun, a hayride rolls through the Festival of Lights and finishes up with fireside refreshments in Watkins Nature Center. 7 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Sundays in December. $5/person. Amenities:  There are plenty of restrooms throughout the park. Fast food restaurants are less than a mile from the entrance to the park.
