There’s nothing like teaching your children about giving back to the community, and Pets on Wheels and Mom and Me offer the perfect opportunity.
Pets on Wheels is looking for volunteers in the Baltimore/Annapolis area with young children or pets to visit lonely residents in area nursing homes and assisted living sites.
Orientation sessions are being held in April for the Pets on Wheels, Mom and Me, and Life Enrichment programs.
The Life Enrichment program provides weekly visits to residents of nursing homes and assisted living sites as well as hospitals, says Diane Dzambo, programs coordinator. Volunteers of all ages share time each week to enrich the lives of older residents. Pets on Wheels and Mom and Me are complementary visitation approaches with pets or small children that operate under the same program. The motto is “Love Licks Loneliness,” says Dzambo, who notes that the staff at these facilities also appreciates a visit from Fido or Fluffy.
Participants can attend a one-hour orientation at 10 a.m., April 10 or at 6 p.m., April 18. Call 410-222-0738 for location and registration. Please do not bring your pet or young child to the training session.
