Program for Children with a Loved One Who Is Battling Cancer

ActivityRoom-300x225Wellness House of Annapolis is accepting applications to enroll elementary school aged children in the next eight-week session of CLIMB – “Children’s Lives Include Moments of Bravery” – that will start January 24, through March 13, 2012, meeting Tuesdays from 5-6:45 p.m.

CLIMB is offered free-of-charge by Wellness House of Annapolis. The programs is a unique support program for children ages 6-11 whose parent or loved one is battling cancer. Specially-trained counselors and leaders use conversation, activities, and art to help children cope with and understand cancer.

Each meeting begins with a group dinner provided by Wellness House of Annapolis for children and their families. After this social time, the children break into support groups for an hour and 15 minutes.

Developed by Children’s Treehouse Foundation in 2001, CLIMB is the nation’s only program providing cancer-focused, psychosocial intervention training and programming dedicated to improving the emotional health of children whose parents, or loved ones, who have cancer. The model has been successfully implemented in more than 60 cancer centers across the country and two internationally (Ireland and England).
