Public meeting tomorrow on tanning regulations for minors

teens-and-tanningThe Children’s Environmental Health and Protection Advisory Council is holding a public meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 18, to hear public input on the state of scientific knowledge regarding the health risks associated with tanning devices and their use by minors; the effectiveness of current consent and age verification procedures; and whether the consent or age verification procedures should be changed.

The meeting will be held on Sept. 18 from 3-5 p.m. at the Arbutus Public Library, 855 Sulphur Spring Road, Arbutus, Maryland, 21227.

The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene recently collected comments on regulations for minors using tanning devices, and the Children’s Environmental Health and Protection Advisory Council will use the written comments along with public comments from tomorrow’s meeting to make recommendations on whether the Department should take any additional action.

The Council will then vote on recommendations to forward to the Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene regarding the consent form and the consent and age verification procedures.
