Teachers across the state are gearing up their virtual classrooms on Google Classroom. Here’s a quick tutorial on getting your kids up and running on the platform.

First, what is Google Classroom?

It’s one of Google’s tools that allows teachers to create and grade assignments that can be viewed and completed by students. This works with the G Suite for Education that schools can sign up to use.

Simple Steps to Get Started

1. Login to the students’ school email account through google email or in the Chrome Browser. (Example, in Anne Arundel County, it’s the student’s lunchnumber@aacps.org)

2. Click on the Google Apps button in the top right corner (grid icon). Find the Classroom App and click the icon. This will take you to the Google Classroom homepage. If you can’t find the Google Classroom app, you can go straight to the page here. (classroom.google.com)

3. Join a Class: The only way to join a class is by being invited. The teacher will send an invite to the classroom through email or will send you the classroom code. If you get an email, click on the Join button in the email. If you get a code, click on the + (plus sign) in the top right corner of the Google Classroom page. A pop up will appear where you can enter the code.

4. Once you join a class, you will see it on the homepage and your classes will be displayed here as individual cards with the title of the class at the top. Click on the class to see what assignments have been posted.
