Beginning the Journey
Our Junior Kindergarten provides children a preparatory year of academic and classroom learning before the year of Kindergarten. It’s serious learning and exploration of the world around them, their Creator, and that special place called “school.” Seeing the joy and awe of learning on her students’ faces is pure delight for our Jr. Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Galloway.
We have developed a unique space within Junior Kindergarten to engage in multisensory activities, learn through study stations including the magnetic wall and exercise in our researched-based motor lab. These young learners are not designed to sit behind a desk, so we actively engage them with hands-on learning and teach interpersonal skills.
Latin language studies start in 3rd grade for a strong foundation in grammar, in understanding of the English language, in learning the scope of root words, and in the training and ability to think carefully—a skill that will follow them for a lifetime.
Middle School Years or Dialectic Years
Onward to the middle school years, the dialectic stage encourages students to question why things are, but to apply logical rigor to the answers they explore. Classroom discussion skills are trained and led by engaged teachers who invite students to taste and see the truth, beauty, and goodness of Christ in each subject, as well as to engage in considerate, respectful dialogue.
High School Years or Rhetoric Years
High school students want to make an impact. They want to influence. They want to change the world around them for the better. That is why the classical tools of the rhetoric stage (10th-12th grade) are a perfect capstone of the Jr.K-12th grade classical Christian journey. Rhetoric students learn to refine and employ the tools of learning to be persuasive and effective leaders wherever the Lord calls them.
What is a Grand Tour?
The Grand Tour is a 17-day capstone trip through Greece and Italy to visit the various sites and cities students have studied in books. They stand where the apostle Paul stood. They walk through the Roman forum. They gaze at Michelangelo’s statues and paintings. They visit and see the places, art, and architecture they have studied in Bible, history, art, English, and even science classes. They return home as seniors transformed with a new vision for their next adventure.

We currently have 6 Rockbridge alumni who are at the United States Naval Academy this fall, one of which is a visiting cadet from the Air Force Academy. And we have one alumna entering next year as a foundation scholar.
