shark Nat AquariumThis year marks the nonprofit’s third year partnering with the Discovery Channel to educate the public and raise awareness about the ocean’s shark populations. Throughout the week of June 26, the aquarium will host a variety of events and activities for guests and shark enthusiasts to enjoy:

On Monday, June 27, the National Aquarium will host an underwater diver chat from the Blacktip Reef exhibit. Experts will answer questions from Blacktip Reef Shark Cam viewers and aquarium guests. The public is encouraged to submit questions in advance on Twitter using #BlacktipReef.

From Tuesday, June 28, to Friday, July 1, the aquarium will host daily behind-the-scenes chats and experiences via Facebook Live. Join the Aquarium’s shark experts for Q&As and feedings. Times for these events vary. To participate, follow the National Aquarium’s Facebook page.

“Sharks are magnificent, mysterious animals that, unfortunately, are often misunderstood because of less than favorable publicity,” said Holly Bourbon, curator of large fishes and diving safety officer at the National Aquarium. “Shark Week at the Aquarium provides an opportunity to not only dispel some of the myths surrounding these amazing creatures, but also showcases how remarkable they are and how much we still have to learn about them.”
