Here is your August reminder that you are almost there.
The almost of fall.
The almost of a new beginning.
The almost of the anticipation of fresh starts and new routines.
There is the summer.
The sweetness of the freedom and the burying chaos of it all.
The long days and the bright lights.
The challenge of the balance at its highest.
Working, staying at home, the blend and clash of both and of being the entertainment and the juggler for a few more weeks.
I’d love to tell you to make it count, that the days are fleeting,
which they are.
And I know you already know that.
But there’s the other part.
I want you to know you are not alone.
I know you are tired.
I know you miss having a clean floor.
I know you will miss them when they are at school.
I know you will love going to a store, any store, alone.
I know you will feel a pang of guilt when you are at a coffee shop able to think for the first time in a long time.
I know you wish that you had more time while simultaneously wanting to fast forward the more draining pieces of it all.
It is okay to long for both.
It is okay to love both the woman that you are that drinks her morning tea while it is still warm while casually reading in the stillness and the mother that chases and sings and carries and is all consumed by the mere survival of the people that she loves the most.
It is okay to long for freedom
while longing for the weight of a child asleep in your arms.
The hurry up and the please so down is a constant, a compass that aligns us all.
The balance of what pulls us sometimes feels too much.
So just be you.
As simple and as hard as it is.
You don’t have to enjoy every moment.
But we also don’t have to wish it away too fast either.
These sticky sweet long summer days all we need to do
is just show up as ourselves.
Work. Play. Show up. Repeat.
The sun keeps on shining on these days
and my darling, so do you.
