Sleeping Beauty ballet on screen March 20

The Sleeping Beauty 2011JP 014311-MTake the family to see the Royal Ballet’s “The Sleeping Beauty” which will be in movie theaters for one night March 20 at 7 p.m.

Called the “most gorgeous and glittering fairytales of all time,” “The Sleeping Beauty” will be part of the 2014 Royal Ballet Cinema Season and is showing in theaters across the U.S. including the Columbia Mall, Snowden Square and Cinemark Egyptian 24 at Arundel Mills. It features Tchaikovsky’s score with American Sarah Lamb dancing the role of the Princess Aurora and Steven McRae as Prince Desire.

First staged in St Petersburg in 1890, “The Sleeping Beauty” is the pinnacle of classical ballet: a marriage of Petipa’s choreography and Tchaikovsky’s music and a challenge for every dancer on stage. With Oliver Messel’s original designs re-imagined by Peter Farmer, and additional choreography by Christopher Wheeldon and Frederick Ashton, today’s Sleeping Beauty not only captures the mood of the original but shows that this is very much a living work for The Royal Ballet, growing and changing with the Company while celebrating its past.

The movie is rated PG and runs approximately 2 hours and 55 minutes, including two intermissions. For tickets visit Fathom Events’ Sleeping Beauty website.
