St. Anne’s in Church Circle in Annapolis is holding the Longest Night service on Wednesday, December 21 at 6:00 pm. Worship and Prayer for When the Holidays Hurt is designed to support those who are enduring the loss of someone close, or experiencing other grief, this holiday season.
This quiet service of candlelight, music, silence, scripture and prayer is open to the community at large. The symbolism of light returning to the world, both as the solstice passes and we celebrate the Nativity of Christ, will be incorporated.
Says Associate Pastor, William Bell, “For some the Christmas season is darkened by loss, grief or pain, recent or past. Our Longest Night service addresses this real darkness and the hurt it causes. It acknowledges that many families are not as joyful as the media would have us believe and is designed to validate the feelings of those who have sorrow at this time.”
“There will be opportunity during the service to remember specific names of those absent from our homes this Christmas. We will celebrate their lives.”
