St. John the Evangelist School: A Tradition of Excellence, A Future of Possibilities

Saint John the Evangelist School is a Roman Catholic parish school that serves students in preschool through eighth grade. In a community of faith, our faculty and staff work together to make sure each child develops to the best of their ability spiritually, artistically, socially, and physically. Our school offers a nurturing environment that promotes living faith, academic excellence, leadership, and service within the church community and society.

At Saint John, academic excellence is at the heart of everything we do. A 2009 and 2024 National Blue Ribbon School, Saint John is committed to providing a challenging, well-rounded education that prepares students for success at every stage of their academic journey. From Pre-K through 8th grade, students receive daily instruction in math, science, social studies, language arts, and religion, with opportunities to advance through accelerated coursework. Beginning in Grade 3, students are placed in separate math groups to provide instruction at the appropriate level, while middle school students can progress through Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, and Geometry. Students are also grouped by ability in Language Arts, allowing teachers to provide targeted instruction and meaningful academic challenges.

Saint John combines high academic expectations with a commitment to meeting the individual needs of every learner. Our Learning Differences Program supports students with diverse learning needs, while teacher assistants in every Pre-K through Grade 3 classroom provide additional individualized attention during the formative years. Students also have access to state-of-the-art STEM and science labs, where they explore robotics, 3D printing, and hands-on scientific investigation using professional laboratory equipment such as micropipettes and bacterial growth incubators. Through these experiences, Saint John students become creative thinkers, confident leaders, thoughtful problem solvers, and effective communicators.

In addition to weekly art, Spanish, technology, physical education, and music classes, Saint John offers clubs, enrichment classes, and activities that allow our students to explore their unique talents and personalities. Students have the opportunity to participate in various clubs and activities, such as musical theater, chess, trivia, robotics, and more. Our St. John Eagles may also participate in a variety of sports through our athletic association, including ice hockey, soccer, lacrosse, cross country, cheerleading, and basketball.

We encourage our students to be active in their learning experiences, both inside and outside of the classroom. As a Certified Maryland Green School, Saint John emphasizes the importance of environmental stewardship in classroom lessons and throughout our 30-acre campus. Through our Project Lead the Way Gateway and Lauch programs, students in every grade build critical thinking, problem-solving, and foundational STEM skills through real-world challenges. Through outreach, leadership, prayer, and service projects, Saint John promotes service to others.
