Looking for a great way to celebrate Memorial Day? Take the family for a picnic on the waterfront grounds of Fort McHenry.
Besides its beautiful location near Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, the birthplace of our national anthem also offers an opportunity for a history lesson. Head to the visitor center when you arrive for information on activities, including a self-guided tour, drill, musket and artillery demonstrations and flag changes at 9:30 a.m. and 4:20 p.m.
Entrance to the historical area of the park is $7 for adults 16 and older and free for children under 15. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Fort McHenry is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Plan to picnic on the expansive lawn outside of the fort. There is plenty of room for the kids to run around and the view is beautiful. There is also a path along the water for walking and biking.
