There’s a new event on the river, coming to you for Father’s Day!
The South River Federation and West & Rhode Riverkeeper have announced the inaugural SPLASH South x West Rhode Fest at Mayo Beach! From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., families can participate in free activities including kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, swimming, water-based educational programs for children, a beer garden for adults (donated by Buck Distributing Company), and live music by Guava Jelly and Swampcandy. During the festival, two kayaks will also be raffled for a cost of $20 per ticket.
The festival aims to teach people the importance of protecting our rivers and the Chesapeake Bay. “This is a way for us to help connect families with our rivers,” says West & Rhode Riverkeeper Jeff Holland. “After all, you can’t expect anyone to want to help protect the rivers and the Chesapeake Bay if they can’t get into the water.”

The festival is sponsored by Toyota as part of a nationwide program organized by the Waterkeeper Alliance. So grab the family and head on out for a day on the water to celebrate the dads in your life.
