Spend the day exploring the beautiful Longwood Gardens in nearby Kennett Square, Pa.
Longwood has plenty for families to do. The indoor Children’s Garden includes more than 30 water features, ranging from a spitting fish and a pond with rising steam to a cave with dripping walls and a drooling dragon. The 3,700 square foot garden, which opened in 2007, also includes The Square Maze, made up of moss and slate covered walls, and a bamboo maze.
Longwood also offers almost 40 other indoor and outdoor gardens, as well as educational programs like bird watching tours and tips for home gardeners. Check out carnivorous plants in the Fern Passage, aquatic flowers at the Waterlily Display or the view from any of the three giant tree houses. There are miles of walking and hiking trails among the native wildflower plantings, a farmhouse and gallery and four leaning pavilions.
While visiting, make sure you catch a fountain show, a Longwood tradition featuring 750 jets of colorful water set to music. The shows are 5 minutes long and run every hour daily starting at 10 a.m.
