Discover a fairy-tale world in the Enchanted Woods at Winterthur Garden in Delaware.
Winterthur Garden covers 60 acres, and is surrounded by nearly one thousand acres of farmland. Kids will love exploring a magical area surrounded by a canopy of oak trees and patches of wild flowers.
First, borrow an educational backpack from the museum before visiting the outdoor area where young visitors will be enchanted by the Tulip Tree House and Faerie Cottage. Be careful crossing the Troll Bridge and enjoy the Fairy Flower Labyrinth, a walking and thinking pathway. Climb up in the Bird’s Nest and have a tea party in the Acorn Tearoom.
Kids will also enjoy other parts of the garden. Listen for frogs at the Reflecting Pool, visit the koi in the Glade and play hide-and-seek in the Pinetum. There’s also a narrated tram ride.
When it’s time to head indoors, have a pretend tea party or play in the general store in the Touch-it Room. Pick up a Preschool Pack before visiting the museum galleries.
If you’d like a tour of the garden, the Once Upon a Family tour is designed for families with children ages 4-11. It lasts for one hour and is available daily at 12:30. For more information on tours and events, visit the Winterthur website.
Outside food and drink is allowed, so feel free to bring a picnic and eat lunch in a spot straight out of a storybook.
The garden is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday. Admission is $20 for adults, $5 for children 11 and under, $18 for students and seniors and free for children under 2.
