Take a day trip to DC and browse the Eastern Market for amazing food, fresh produce, homemade crafts and more.

marketEastern Market is the original food and arts market of Washington D.C. and is a neat place to take the kids. It’s over 136 years old and still bustling.

The market is a great place to buy groceries or gifts. In the South Hall Market you can find bakeries, poultry, cheeses, meats and seafood. A local farmers market full of produce lines the outdoor edges of the market.

On weekends artisans and crafts people set up their wares. Photographers, wood workers, jewelry makers and other artists sell homemade crafts, and there is also a flea market full of antiques, maps and furniture. Come hungry and bring bags to load up on treats.

Check out the Eastern Market website for more details.

The market is open Tuesday-Friday 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Eastern Market is closed on Mondays.
