Are you looking for a fun place to explore with a little bit of everything? There’s no place like Watkins Regional Park for fun family activities, including a Wizard of Oz playground, miniature train, and the Old Maryland Farm. Our very own Deena Dino was spotted here last week! Have you been following her on her adventures to enter the contest and win cool prizes? Enter here to guess where she is this week!
Old Maryland Farm
Although this is not a petting zoo, there is so much to experience on this Maryland farm. The farm is located just a short walk from the miniature train station and has agricultural exhibits, livestock and display gardens to provide a farming experience to all visitors. They also host birthday parties for a unique celebration.
Wizard of Oz Playground
The park also has a Wizard of Oz themed playground for the kids. Allow your kids to venture into another world as they explore this fun playground. This Imagination Playground has six amazing areas to explore. It features an Emerald City jungle gym, yellow brick road and ruby slipper slides.
After you have explored the world of Oz, test out the family’s putt-putt skills. This miniature golf course has 18-holes and will have your family trying to get that hole-in-one. They can also host birthday parties here.
Cost per round: $5 per person for residents of Prince George’s and Montgomery County; $6.50 per person for non-residents.
Finish off your visit with a ride on the historic carousel. Originally operated in Chesapeake Beach, this restored carousel provides delightful rides for all. The carousel is wheelchair accessible.

Also, your little ones will also love the Watkins Nature Center. With live animals like insects and reptiles, your family can learn all about the wildlife in the area. They also have indoor and outdoor ponds, songbird feeding area and a butterfly garden.
Finally, you can also find tent campsites and hiking trails to explore at this park. There are about 30 individual sites and 3 group sites in the campground area. As for hiking, there are plenty of trails to take like the Loop Trail (1.7 miles), which takes you around much of the main spots.
