We continue our tour of Maryland’s counties with Cecil County, less than an hour and a half from the Anne Arundel region. Learn what fun activities you can do as a family, what to see and what role this county plays in Maryland history.
Cecil County
Must-Sees
Cecil County is home to many farms, such as Milburn Orchards. The apple, peach and berry orchard holds holiday events throughout the year, but officially opens in the summer and fall for pick-your-own fruit and shoppers at its farm market. Walnut Springs Farm is another well-loved pick-your-own destination that is active during the summer, when its blueberry and raspberry crops are ripe for harvest.

Cecil County also has many charming small towns that are perfect to spend a day exploring, such as North East and Rising Sun. While you’re there, check out the Upper Bay Museum and Gilpin Falls Historic Covered Bridge in North East and Plumpton Park Zoo and Dove Valley Vineyard in Rising Sun.
Local Nature
Cecil County’s biggest park is Elk Neck State Park, which is close to the tip of the Elk Neck Peninsula. Since it’s so close to the water, it’s a common spot for swimming, boating, and even crabbing. There are also many campsites, some of which are currently being renovated and improved. Turkey Point Lighthouse, which is in the park, offers great views of the Chesapeake Bay.
