Vaccines needed from the tween years on

The following vaccines are required or suggested after age 11. Consult with your doctor to determine which ones are right for your child.

• Tetanus–diphtheria–pertussis (Tdap) booster, given once between ages 11 and 18 for those who have never had a dose of tetanus–diphtheria [Td] booster; those who have had a Td booster should get a dose of Tdap 5 years after they received Td)
• Hepatitis B virus vaccine, in a series for those who have not been vaccinated
• Meningococcal vaccine, given once between ages 11 and 12; once at about age 15 years for those who have not been vaccinated)
• Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, given once between ages 11 and 12 for those who have not had chickenpox or have not been vaccinated
• Measles–mump–rubella (MMR) vaccine, given once between ages 11 and 12 for those who did not receive the two-shot vaccine during childhood
• For girls, the human papilloma virus vaccine, given in a series between ages 11 and 12; one series between ages 13 years and 26 years for those who have not been vaccinated; or to girls aged 9 or 10.
