Learn more about the Patuxent River and take part in fun for the family at Patuxent River Appreciation Days Oct. 8-9 at the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons.
Kids can build toy boats and families can ride in canoes or take a free cruise aboard the Wm. B. Tennison and Dee of St. Mary’s. An arts and craft show will have over 30 artists in the museum’s parking lot, and two music stages will host live performances including GrooveSpan, Smoke Creek Rounders, Country Memories, Southern Maryland Jazz Orchestra and more.
Non-profit groups will celebrate the river in a variety of ways. Visitors can check out exhibits, demonstrations, displays and educational activities about green products, recycling, oyster farming restoration efforts, live animals, and more.
The annual PRAD Parade will follow a one mile route along Solomons Island Road beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday. Non-profit organizations can join the parade with cash prizes offered for best float entries. For details on entering visit the website or email Randy Geck at email@example.com.
On Saturday, local wineries will offer wine tasting. Fall produce, potted mums, honey and homemade jams will also be available for sale.
Events outside are free. Museum entry will also be free the weekend of the event. This festival will run 10 a.m.-5 p.m. For details call 410-326-2042 or visit the Calvert Marine Museum website.
