Get up close and personal with live sharks at Calvert Marine Museum’s Sharkfest July 9.

sharkfest WCheck out live sharks and Atlantic sturgeon in the Corbin Pavilion, and take part in hands-on opportunities throughout the museum to explore the diversity of sharks and their remarkable history on planet Earth.

Kids can learn fascinating sharktoids, check out the evidence of damage done on fossil whale bones by prehistoric sharks, paint a shark mural, make a shark hat and play in the Shark Game Show and win a prize. Take a picture of your kids in the jaws of a Megalodon shark. Face painting will also be available for a $5 fee.

Sharks are highly adaptable and now live in every ocean in the world in warm, temperate and cold waters. Learn why preserving these ancient animals is critical to the health of our oceans.

Admission to the museum is $4-9, and the event will run 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The museum is located in Solomons. For details call 410-326-2042 or visit the Calvert Marine Museum website.
