Friday, February 7

CTA HobbitThe Hobbit
Feb. 7–16. Bilbo the hobbits, is asked to leave his large, roomy and very dry home in the ground in order to set off as chief robber in an attempt to recover an important treasure. It’s the last thing that any sensitive Hobbit would want to do, but great benefit eventually results for all of the Hobbits who inhabit Middle Earth $15. Fri. 7 p.m., Sat. 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., Sun. 2 p.m. Note Saturday Feb. 8 performance will be signed and is sensory friendly. Children’s Theatre of Annapolis. 

Sweetheart Dance
The Sweetheart Dance (formerly the Daddy Daughter Dance) is open to everyone! This new annual family-friendly Valentine’s Day celebration is open to all parents/caregivers and their children. Come out for an evening of dancing and delicious treats. A special keepsake photograph will be given to each family included in the registration price. Advanced registration required. Dress attire is semi-formal. For ages 3–10. $35 per pair ($15 per extra child). 6:30–8:30 p.m. Pip Moyer Recreation Center, Annapolis. 

Family Fridays Under the Dome
Each program features a full-dome movie preceded by a themed, family-friendly planetarium presentation. $6. 6:30–7:30 p.m. Robinson Nature Center, Columbia. 

U.S. Naval Academy Band: Blues & Gold Concert
The Naval Academy Band’s newest ensemble, Blues & Gold, will perform at Maryland Hall. Under the direction of Chief Musician Rory Cherry, Blues & Gold will perform classic blues and blues-infused music from artists such as B.B. King and Muddy Waters, and contemporary hits by guitar virtuosi Joe Bonamassa and Eric Clapton. Free. 7:30 p.m. Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Annapolis. 

You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown
Feb. 7–22. This classic musical comedy features your favorite Peanuts characters as they sing, dance, and act their way through a two hour reminder of what it’s like to be a child. $25 adults, $15 children. Performances Fri.–Sat. 8 p.m. and Sun. 3 p.m. Sun. Bowie Playhouse, Bowie. 

Saturday,  February 8

Astro Adventure
Grab your space suit and take off on a space adventure! Experience all the wonders that space has to offer, see if you’ve got what it takes to make it to the moon in Astronaut Training Camp, and create your own constellation viewing device. Plus, channel your ground control skills and launch rockets of your own design. Free with admission. Noon–4 p.m. Maryland Science Center, Baltimore. 

Bottle Cap Mural Weekend Workshop
Feb. 8, 15, 22. Over three Saturdays, create an eco-friendly mosaic that includes upcycling plastic bottle caps. Choose from project examples or come up with your own design. Students will be provided with the backing material and asked to start collecting plastic bottle caps of all sizes and shapes. $125. 10–11:30 a.m. ArtFarm Annapolis. 

Mommy & Me Valentine Unicorns
Mommy and Me classes are 2 canvases that when put together make a complete painting! $25. 2 p.m. Wine & Design, Annapolis.

Who doesn’t love a Macaroon? Crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside and filled with delicious flavors. Learn how to bake like the French to create these little bites of yumminess! This class is 4 hours long. Students will work in groups to learn the history and the delicate art of making French Macaroons. Each student will carry home recipes & their beautiful creations. This class is not designed for children with nut allergies. Ages 6-13. Please pack a lunch as we will be baking and decorating for the entire class. 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. $72. Hearts and Hounds Mall Crawl
Join the SPCA of Anne Arundel County and Dare to C.A.R.E. for a dog-friendly walk in the mall Free. 8–10 a.m. Westfield Annapolis Mall, Annapolis. 

Mommy, Doll & Me Tea Party!
Enjoy an assortment of delicious food and beverages, plus activities and crafts for the children. Plus get a free photo keepsake of your child and their doll. $20 adults, $12 kids. 1–3 p.m. Pusser’s Caribbean Grille, Annapolis. 

Black History Month Concert
The United States Naval Academy Gospel Choir is an upbeat inspirational musical ensemble. Comprised of midshipmen from various places, races, and creeds, the Gospel Choir is reflective of the diverse interests and ethnicities within the Brigade of Midshipmen. $19. 4 p.m. USNA Chapel, Annapolis.

Winter Cookie Decorating Class
Celebrate the simple beauty of winter and join Kimberly of Mulberry Treats for some cookie-decorating fun. Kimberly will show you step-by-step how to decorate a pretty winter cookie set. This hands-on 2 hour workshop is geared toward beginners and will cover royal icing consistency, piping and flooding, and wet-on-wet techniques. Ticket cost includes instruction, six decorated cookies, light refreshments, icing and cookie recipies, helpful tips and tricks, a boc to take your cookies home, and a goodie bag! 1-3 p.m. $75.
