Fifteen fun, fantastic, family events this weekend! From a Nerf gun battle to Lunar New Year celebrations, a STEAM camp and even tea with Cinderella, here are our top picks for fun January 31 to February 2 in and around Annapolis, Baltimore and DC.

Friday, January 31

Nerf Gun Battle!
Kidz City will supply the guns and darts you bring the kids! Water and a snack will be included and pizza will be available for purchase. $20 first child, $15 additional children, $10 additional children who bring their own Nerf Guns. Age 5-12 years old. Please do not bring your own darts. Included with your ticket price is one raffle ticket for a chance to win a free month of admission! Kidz City, Odenton.

Kids Night Out- Star Wars GLOW
Three hours of non-stop drop-off fun, including supervised open play, tons of fun, and themed activities! Children will have a blast when we turn off the lights and make it a GLOW Party. DIY Pool Noddle Light Sabers and glow accessories included. Bring your own brown-bag dinner or add on pizza meal for $6 (2 slices, drink & side). Drop-off for kiddies 3-12 years and potty trained. $19.99/child, must register with payment at a minimum of 2 days prior to date. Story Time & Science
Each week we will explore our monthly science theme with a story. After we finish the story, kids can do an optional fun science activity related to what we read. Story time is included with admission to the Little Learners Lab, which is only $4 on Fridays! Black History Month at Harriet Tubman State Park
Fri.–Sun. In celebration of Black History Month, Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park and Visitor Center invites everyone to free, family-friendly programs including ranger-led tours of the park highlighting the symbolism, story times, movie screenings, music programs and more. Free. 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park, Cambridge. 

Saturday, February 1

African-American History Challenge
Meet characters from African American History then test your knowledge for prizes! Ages 5–12. $10. 10–11:30 a.m. The Chesapeake Children’s Museum, Annapolis. 

Lunar New Year: Guangdong National Orchestra
Through Feb. 2. Ring in the Year of the Rat with showcases of Chinese and Korean culture. and a special display of Winter Lanterns in recognition of the first winter season at the REACH. The Kennedy Center Millenium Stage. Washington D.C. 

Lil’ Stars
Discover outer space through stories and songs. This month’s focus is “Bear’s Shadow”. $3, with $5 admission. 10 and 11 a.m. Robinson Nature Center, Columbia. 

Bird Walk
Learn the skills of identifying birds by sight and sound. Binoculars and field guides are available to borrow. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. 8–11 a.m. Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary, Lothian.

Celebrate the Lunar New Year with The Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) and the Chinese Embassy. This year features traditional music, magic, and demonstrations of traditional Chinese handicrafts, such as dough modeling, finger painting, and woodcut printing as you “awaken the lion” and ring in the Year of the Rat! Free. 11:30 a.m.–3 p.m. Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C.

Paws for Reading

Discover Jug Bay Wetlands
Feb. 1, 8, 15, 22. Join a Jug Bay Naturalist for a free guided tour of the wetland boardwalk to discover the wonderful and unique plants and animals found at the Sanctuary. 1–1:45 p.m. Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary, Lothian. 

Winter STEAM Team Children’s Camp
Saturdays in Feb. Bring your little mariner to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum to join the CBMM STEAM Team. Ages 4–9. 10 a.m.–noon or 1–3 p.m. $15. Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, St. Michaels. 

Shen Yun
Feb 1–2. This epic production immerses you in stories reaching back to the most distant past as you explore classical Chinese dance, along with patented special effects and all-original orchestral works. $93–$135. Sat. 2 and 7:30 p.m.; Sun. 2 p.m. The Hippodrome Theatre at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center, Baltimore.

Free Family Sunday
Sundays in February. Bring the family in for free art-making workshops and enjoy hands-on fun the entire family. All materials are provided. Free. 2–5 p.m. Baltimore Museum of Art, Baltimore. 

Cinderella’s Royal Tea Party
You are cordially invited to Cinderella’s Royal Tea Party! Wear your royal attire and Meet the cast of Cinderella. Parents welcome to take pictures. 12:45 p.m. fun Cinderella activities, 1:30 p.m. snack and entertainment, 1:40 p.m. find your reserved seats for the performance. Youth (12 and under) Royalty ‘tea’ Tickets are $12.50 + .50 processing fee. Note: the party is offered to youth 12 and under and includes the activities, snack, and ticket to the show.
