Stop by any of the 16 branches of the Anne Arundel County Public Library for a fun-filled summer! From now until August 31, kids can join the annual Summer @ Your Library Quest for a chance to win fantastic prizes like explorer kits or escape room box sets! Adults can take on the Wild Card Bingo challenge for a chance to win four airline tickets courtesy of Southwest Airlines.
The annual program, with the theme of “Adventure Begins at Your Library,” aims to prevent seasonal learning loss among students and encourage reading, social and library activity for all ages. Kids can participate in the Summer @ Your Library Quest using a gameboard to help Sneaks the library cat travel down the trail to find his campsite. Adults can partake in the “Wild Card Bingo” challenge and earn a chance to win four airline tickets courtesy of Southwest Airlines.
Kids have two options to sign up for the Summer @ Your Library Quest. You can download the Beanstack app to track and log your reading digitally or you can stop into any of our 16 locations and ask for a printed gameboard. Once you are signed up, you’ll need to decide how long you will read each day. Even five minutes counts. Once you start, color in a shape for each day you reach your goal or complete an activity. Suggested activities:
- Try reading a sign when you visit a park or beach this summer.
- Learn a new outdoor skill, like flying a kite, riding a bike, or trying a skateboard.
- Attend a library program.
- Follow us on social media @aacpl.
- Explore a list of books celebrating differences from Kindness Grows Here.
- Do a science experiment or STEM project.
- Upcycle and create something new.
- Take a mindfulness break.
- Practice a random act of kindness.
- Prepare a meal with your family.
- Play a game with a friend or family.
- Clean up your yard or room.
- Call a friend or family member.
- Smile at everyone you see all day.
- Name 5 things you are grateful for.
- Write a story, poem, or song. Do a craft, draw or paint.
When you reach the gameboard’s first tent at day 15, you’re halfway there and its grand prize raffle ticket time! Fill out raffle ticket one (1) on your gameboard and visit your local library to drop off your ticket, collect your halfway prize and keep going!
When you reach the end at 30 days, you are all done! Fill out raffle ticket two (2) and visit your local library to drop off your ticket and collect your completion prize!
Halfway and completion prize choices include: a book, a push-pop fidget, or a journal. Grand prizes include: Dino Fossil Dig Kit, Zoo Felt Board Story Set, Park Books prize pack, Kids Explorer and Bug Catching Kit and Break In – Area 51 Escape Room Box Set. The grand prize drawing will take place on September 9 and winners will be notified the following day.
For the adult wild card bingo game, sign up on the Beanstack app or print your bingo card. Mark off your spots as you complete the activities or log your reading challenges. Complete a row, column or diagonal to automatically be entered to earn an entry into the grand prize raffle and complete your entire card to get a second entry. This year, one lucky winner will win four (4) airline passes courtesy of Southwest Airlines.
To keep participants engaged, libraries across AACPL will host fun, entertaining and educational events and activities all summer long including:
- Magic shows
- Concerts from the library band, The Paperback Writers
- Live animals
- Hip Hop songwriting
- Puppet shows
- Juggling acts
- Poetry & mythology
- Stories through opera
- STEM adventures
