Thoughts from my GYN appointment — FranklyStein

Last week I found myself in the examining room with my gynecologist chatting about college.

Little MagsI was there for my annual exam. I still call him my OB/GYN even though I hope I am long past the stage of needing an OB. But habits die hard. He was my obstetrician. He saw me through four miscarriages and the birth of my four kids. At the same time, he was having his kids.

And now we are talking about college. It struck me as I was sitting there in my paper gown that in a blink of an eye, I went from giving birth to my oldest to taking her on college visits. I don’t know how it’s possible. I still clearly remember the delivery room. The hours of labor. The nurses telling me they could see her dark hair. The epidural wearing off, and then finally, having her in my arms.

I remember when she was just a few days old, holding her up and looking into her eyes and wondering who she would become. That little tiny thing in a pink onesie is now an honor roll student thinking about nursing. She’s a swimmer with strength and determination beyond anything I could have imagined when I was gazing into her fuzzy, newborn eyes.

And now she’s planning her future. Which is not so very far away.
