Anne Arundel County School bus driver Betty Ostling, 78, has received two marriage proposals in her life.
One from her husband, Carl, the other from a 6-year-old boy.
Ostling, a school bus driver for 50 years, doesn’t remember the boy’s name. But she remembers his exact words as he boarded her bus that day in the 1980s.
“He said, ‘Ms. Betty, would you please take those sunglasses off so I can see your eyes because I’m going to marry you some day.'”
From marriage proposals and hugs to bloody noses and fistfights, bus drivers have seen and heard it all. Chesapeake Family talked with some of the area’s most well-loved bus drivers to find out why they drive a bus, what they like and dislike about their job and what really happens on the short drive to and from school. Here is what they had to say.
