It’s the time of year to start your search if you are thinking about private schools in Maryland. There are many Maryland independent schools to choose from in our area and open house season is underway. To get you started on your search check our Maryland Private School Directory and listing of open houses of MD private schools. And before you begin, here are some tips from staff members at several area private schools on how to narrow down your selection.
“Attending Open Houses gives families a wonderful opportunity to learn, first-hand, about a school,” says Irfan Latimer, director of communications at The Key School in Annapolis. “Meeting faculty and students, getting a sense of the culture, asking questions that help you become better informed about the respective programs is very important as you begin to consider selecting an independent school for your child.”
Independent schools in the area all have distinct offerings, philosophies, cultures, and traditions and it’s important to find a school that is a good match for your child and your family, Latimer says.
“You are entering into a partnership and it’s crucial to take the time to personally experience ‘life’ in the schools you are considering and to do your research thoroughly,” she says.
