For the eighteenth consecutive year, youth across Anne Arundel County will rally against smoking during Tobacco-Free Kids Week, Feb. 10-16. The highlight of the week will be a T-shirt design contest, with the top winners in three age groups getting custom-printed T-shirts for their sponsoring groups.
During Tobacco-Free Kids Week, about 130 County groups will hold anti-tobacco activities for more than 71,000 youths. The event began in 1996 and is the County’s premier smoking-prevention event for youth. It is part of Smoking Stinks, a Learn To Live program from the Anne Arundel County Department of Health. More information can be found on the Tobacco-Free Kids Week page of the Smoking Stinks website, SmokingStinks.org.
All County schools and community groups are invited to participate in Tobacco-Free Kids Week. Kids from preschool to high school and other youth-oriented groups will celebrate smoke-free living with activities that include pledge walls, trivia games, anti-tobacco displays and presentations. The T-shirt design contest winners in three age categories will get iPod touches, and the winning designs will be printed on T-shirts for the sponsoring groups. All entries will be posted on the “Showcase” page of the Smoking Stinks website at SmokingStinks.org.
