Treat the family to Light City Baltimore

Baltimore lights up with glowing sculptures and illuminated performances during the second annual Light City Baltimore March 31 through April 8.

light baltimore 4 WThe festival will transform the city with large-scale light installations, illuminated puppets and stilt walkers, music and innovation — including a LED Ferris wheel and lighted cotton candy.

The BGE Light Art Walk along the Inner Harbor will feature more than 50 attractions including lighted sculptures, projections, interactive technologies, performances, concerts and food vendors. A Mini Light City for kids will be at Pierce’s Park with illuminated craft activities, a youth makers’ tent, children’s entertainers and more.

Families should also check out Impulse, an iterative work comprising seesaws fitted with LED lights and speakers that produce a series of beautiful sounds.

Nightly Moments

Every night there will be new “Nightly Moments” — themed celebrations and parades starting at 8pm. Nightly activities are as follows:

Saturday, April 1, 2017, 8pm
Light City Parade of Fools
On the evening of April Fool’s Day, be a part of the this parade featuring Baltimore’s largest kazoo band and the April Fool’s Hats Brigade.

Sunday, April 2, 2017, 8pm
Light It Up BLUE Parade
Wear blue and step to the beat as Light City partners with the Kennedy Krieger Institute to support World Autism Awareness Day.

Monday, April 3, 2017, 8pm
Star-Spangled Baltimore
Prepare for a night full of patriotic symbolism. Join the parade with your red, white and blue, as we pay homage to Baltimore as the birthplace of the national anthem, featuring The United States Army Old Guard Fire and Drum Corps, of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment.

Tuesday, April 4, 2017, 8pm
Dancing On the Water
Watch in awe as the show briefly moves to the marina as the Baltimore City Fire Department Boat illuminates the Inner Harbor in a spectacular water show alongside Tall Ship Sorlandet, USS Constellation and Pride of Baltimore II along the West Shore Wall. Viewers are also invited to travel around the Inner Harbor using the Baltimore Water Taxi and the Lady Maryland by the Living Classrooms Foundation.

Wednesday, April 5, 2017, 8pm
Illuminated Fitness Walk
Join some Baltimore’s most active fitness groups and the Baltimore Allstars Marching Band as they trek through Light City in a flood of colors, lights and energy. Presented by Kaiser Permanente, the walk will be welcomed by the merchants of Harbor East when it disbands.

Thursday, April 6, 2017, 8pm
College Night Out
Colleges and universities from Baltimore show their school spirit by bringing students and bands to the Inner Harbor to kick off Light City.

Friday, April 7, 2017, 8pm
Kinetic Procession & Bike Glow Rally
Light up your bike! Join a walking parade of city cyclists and pedal-powered contraptions making their way around the harbor. Squonk will create a pageant of double-decker human powered stages to create post-industrial performances. Following the parade, cyclists are invited to participate in a glowing-group ride to visit some of the Neighborhood Lights, departing from the National Aquarium.

Saturday, April 8, 2017, 12am
Light City Finale Fireworks by Grucci
Pause at midnight on Light City’s final night to enjoy a colorful finale performance of fireworks that dance across the Inner Harbor basin. Presented by Fireworks by Grucci.

Light City Baltimore is free and will be held at various venues throughout Baltimore. Festival hours are 7-11 p.m. nightly and until midnight on Friday and Saturday. For details visit the Light City Baltimore website, lightcity.org.
