Martha Gardner, a fifth-grade teacher at Belvedere Elementary School in Arnold, who has students write a letter to themselves as 21-year-olds and then mails it to them 11 years later, is the 2011-2012 Anne Arundel County Public Schools Teacher of the Year.
The surprise announcement culminated an evening of celebration on April 16 at the 26th annual Excellence in Education Awards, presented by AACPS and the Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce, and sponsored by Comcast and the Anne Arundel Community College Foundation.
