Take the kids to the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore for a day! Learn about the animals, feed the giraffes, watch the apes swing from their ropes and much more on this great adventure.
The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is a popular destination for the summer. It gives everyone a chance to see and learn about some unique animals.
The Maryland Zoo has many habitats to explore. In the African Journey, visitors can see the elephants, zebras, and giraffes to name a few. Then, over in the Maryland wilderness, you can discover the bobcats, turtles, snakes and other Maryland natives. Don’t forget to walk through the Polar Bear Watch to catch a glimpse of Amelia Gray, the polar bear.
If you’re visiting during the day, be sure to catch all the fun! Watch elephant baths and penguin feedings in the morning and listen in on keeper chats, where zoo keepers explain how they care for and train various animals in the zoo. Keeper chats vary by day, so check out the zoo website to see what animals they’ll be focusing on.
Have fun getting to know the many different animals at the zoo. There are many opportunities to feed some of the animals for an additional cost. These include the giraffes, goats, penguins and tortoises.
Other attactions at the Zoo
The animals are definitely the focus of the zoo, but there are some other fun attractions the kids would love. Kids can ride the carousel for $5 per rider on this beautiful old-fashion carousel. They can also hop on the Jones Falls Zephyr train for a 10-minute ride. The ride takes you behind the African Journey and through a section of the Jones Falls Watershed. This is also $5 per rider.
