Warn children not to play on frozen ponds and creeks

OnIceFollowing the rescue of two boys from a tributary of the Magothy River on Sunday, Anne Arundel County Police Department has issued reminder: PLEASE DO NOT attempt to ice skate on the frozen bodies of water.

Police are urging parents to speak to their children about the dangers of playing on frozen bodies of water.

The Maryland-National Capital Park Police Department has also issued a warning for people to stay away from frozen ponds, lakes, creeks, and rivers.

The Park Police is calling on parents, teachers, staff and school security officials in Prince George’s County to remind young people to stay away from frozen water.

All winter recreation on ice-covered ponds, lakes, creeks and streams belonging to the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is prohibited.

If you see a person on the ice, immediately report it to the Park Police at 301-459-9088. If you ever see a person or animal in trouble in icy water, stay on the bank and call 911.
