Weekday Summer Fun June 7 to 11

From cooking classes for the kids to story-times, and even some date night ideas for the adults, just because the weekend is over doesn’t mean the fun has to end! Here are our top picks for June 7th to 11th.

Monday 7 June

Kids Writers LIVE! Adam Gidwitz Virtual Story Time
Adam Gidwitz will tell you a Grimm fairy tale you have never heard before… but beware! It will be grim… and weird… and probably fairly hilarious. Gidwitz is the bestselling author of A Tale Dark and Grimm , In a Glass Grimmly , and The Grimm Conclusion, as well as The Empire Strikes Back: So You Want to Be a Jedi? , Newbery Honored novel, The Inquisitor’s Tale, and brand new series, The Unicorn Rescue Society. Tune in at 6 p.m. Hosted by the Enoch Pratt Free Library.

Tuesday 8 June

Turtle Paddle – 2021
Be prepared to view dozens of Eastern Painted Turtles and Red-Bellied Turtles as you explore wild Tuckahoe Creek, a major tributary of the Choptank River. Sultana Education Foundation’s public paddles are a great way to explore the shallow creeks, streams, and rivers that flow to our nation’s largest estuary. Kayak programs take place on the National Park Service’s Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail. Kayaks are provided so all you need to bring is water, a snack, and your binoculars! No children under 12. $30. 10 a.m. 12:30 p.m. Tuckahoe State Park Boat Ramp, Queen Anne.

Half Pint Kids Club:
Kids ages 3 to 5 with a parent can enjoy a fun filled culinary or craft workshop every Tuesday, followed by a store tour and samples. In this class kids will learn how to make a fun craft or a delicious snack using all-natural ingredients. $5. 11–11:45 a.m. Pre-register online. Annapolis Culinary Center, Annapolis.

Pop Up Playtime
Join Port Discovery’s Educators for Pop Up Play Time each Tuesday at 10 a.m. on the Port Discovery Children’s Museum Facebook Page.

Wednesday 9 June

The Lighthouse Keeper is Missing!
In this investigation-based program, explore a virtual version of the Hooper Strait Lighthouse looking for evidence about the lighthouse keeper, learn how lighthouses work and what life was like for a lighthouse keeper in the Chesapeake. (Designed for students in Grades 2–12). $5 per student. 2– 2:30 p.m. Hosted by the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. Pre-register at registration@cbmm.org

Thursday 10 June

Sea Squirts: Mommas and Babies of the Bay
This program invites children 18 months–3 years, with an adult, to discover the museum together  through music, stories, and special activities.There will be story time and a carryout craft, available while supplies last. Sessions are 15–20 minutes throughout the day beginning at 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.. Calvert Marine Museum, Solomons. 

Family Virtual Cooking Class: Grilled Fruit
Grilled fruit is the ultimate summer food! Top with ice cream for a sweet treat, or add to salads and salsas for a burst of flavor. Angela Parreco, Nutritionist for Giant, will demonstrate some of her favorite ways to enjoy grilled fruits. A list of suggested ingredients will be provided in the email confirmation upon registration. 3 p.m. Hosted by the AA County Public Library. 

Sip and Stroll at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore: Animal Adaptations
Explore species’ unique adaptations and learn how their needs are met here at the Maryland Zoo with the highest quality of care from the animal and veterinary teams. Adults ages 21 and up. $65 per person. Includes 3 drinks (beer or wine), food truck meal from Triple J, tour, and after hours visit to the exhibits. 5–8 p.m. Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. 

B&O Farmers Market
Through Sept. 30. The B&O Farmers Market in partnership with the Fells Point Farmers Market returns! Every Thursday from 4–7 p.m. head to the parking lot of the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore for fresh produce, eggs, and more from local farmers. 

Facebook Live Babies in Bloom
Thursdays. 10:30 a.m. Join the Anne Arundel County Public Library online for a special Facebook Live event for babies ages birth to 18 months. Babies will enjoy songs and action rhymes while building early literacy skills.

Friday 11 June

ManWomanDateNightDinner Under the Stars
West Street closes and is filled with cafe tables reminiscent of the open-air cafes in Paris and the piazzas of Rome. Live music, special art exhibits and canopy lights. Free to attend; dining prices vary. Reservations at participating restaurants are strongly recommended. Wednesdays to Saturdays through Sept. 15.  6–10 p.m. West Street, Annapolis.

Storytime with the Chesapeake Children’s Museum
Join the CCM every Friday at 10:30 a.m. on Facebook, where they’ll introduce a new children’s book each week, occasionally incorporating songs or crafts to do at home. 

Field Work Fridays
Fridays, 9 a.m.–noon. Every Friday rain or shine, volunteers can join staff naturalists to tackle a stewardship project in need of support. Projects include invasive plant removals, trash clean-ups, gardening, citizen science monitoring, and more. No prior training or experience is necessary. Ages 8 and up. Registration required. Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary, Lothian.

Sip N Shop
Get your girlfriends together and come out for an evening of food and fun, sipping and shopping! The event boasts vendors, crafters, and food artisans to delight all of your senses. VIP tickets available. The $10 VIP experience includes: priority parking, drink ticket, and swag bag. Proceeds to benefit the Blue Ribbon Project, an organization that supports foster children. 5–9 p.m. Severna Park Community Center.
