What will my kids remember about our holiday celebrations? — FranklyStein

Making Christmas memories

I’ve been thinking lately about what traditions my kids will remember when they are grown up and have families of their own. Will they remember our cookie-baking day in which we turn out 100s of sugar and chocolate chip cookies to give to neighbors and teachers (with plenty left over for us)? Will they remember our trips to the tree farm to select and chop down our own tree (and even sometimes setting it up on the same day)? Will they remember the plastic nativity set they spend hours playing with? Will they remember opening the gifts they bought for each other on Christmas Eve so they wouldn’t get lost in the shuffle? Or will they remember reading of the “Night Before Christmas” and tracking Santa on NORAD before going to bed?

This week on the Chesapeake Family website we’ve been featuring traditions that our readers have shared with us. Check them out, you just might come up with an idea that your kids will remember years from now.

I hope that when my kids are grown and think back their Christmases past; the memories of our traditions will warm their hearts. And this year, when I’m stressing out about the holiday shopping, the holiday baking and the Christmas cards I haven’t sent out for two years, I’m trying to stop myself and refocus on what matters most — spending time with the kids and making those memories that will last long after the presents have been opened and forgotten.
