Vans Custom Culture is looking for creative high school students to express themselves and possibly win $75,000 for their school!
If your high school student is an artist with a flair for design and expression, this may be the perfect outlet! Vans Custom Culture was created to inspire and empower high school students to embrace their creativity through art and design and to bring attention to diminishing arts education budgets. Vans believes everyone should be empowered to express themselves creatively and should be given the tools to do so. Custom Culture is a national high school customization competition using blank Vans shoes to be customized around specific themes. The contest is open only to public or private high schools (grades 9 – 12) in the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.
To compete in the competition, an art teacher or school administrator needs to register the high school on vans.com/customculture between January 6-31, 2020. Once a school is registered, Vans will pick 500 schools to compete. If your school is notified that you have been selected to participate in the competition, a box of 2 pair of shoes will be sent to your school. Students will need to design the two pairs of shoes around the competition themes: Local Flavor & Off the Wall (one theme per pair).
During the submission period, the selected schools will upload images of the completed designs and an impact document explaining how the school could benefit from the funding. Only one registration per school is accepted. If a school has multiple students intererested in participating, a school can a) have a Custom Culture Team that contains students from multiple classes, or b) divide the pairs of shoes up between the disciplines. Entries will be judged by an internal panel. Once Vans has narrowed down the Top 50 entries, there will be a public vote to determine the five finalists.
